Here We Go Again

And here we are again.  Same place as last year, down 2-1 in the SCF.  The players, coaches, and my liver are one year older and one year more experienced.  This is a positive thing for the hockey, but not so much my liver.

Then again, we’ve all been in training.  The players are smarter, more skilled, and more accustomed to each other.  Meanwhile, my liver is more tolerant.  But just as the players need the regular season to prepare for the playoffs, so does my liver.  Once the playoffs come around though, you have to be able to hit the ground running (or drinking in this case).

Tonight will be another example of such.  Just two nights ago, I lost my sobriety in Mellon Arena.  It made its way home last night, and now, just one night later, I have to do it again.   I’ll venture out tonight to root for a team that I only have ties to emotionally and alcoholically.  I have the chance of losing my decision-making, my sense of direction, and my voice.  But the pain and the possibility of hangover is all worth it in the end if we get a win and tie this series up.  But, and if that wasn’t reason enough, it’s Thursday.  Fuck my liver.
