Wrecked in Buffalo

Having MLK Day off from work is a good excuse to drink on a Sunday night.  I had a family event during the day and then decided to go out with some friends.  Nothing too serious though.  As the night concludes, a friend and I decide that it would be a good idea to drive to Niagara Falls (about 3 1/2 hours) to try our luck at gambling.  Now, having drank earlier isn’t why this was a bad idea because I’m fine to drive at this point.  The fact that it’s January 15th and we want to drive north is the bad idea.

Around 5am, while passing through Buffalo, I hit black ice.  The car careens to the left, off the highway, and we scrape the wall a few times.  FUCK, FUCK, FUCK.  Thank God we didn’t go the other way across the lanes where other cars were passing us.  I drive off to the side of the road with a struggle.  The left wheel is turned in towards the car with obvious damage.  I manage to forcefully drive it to a repair shop.  Obviously it’s not open, so we wait…

Thankfully someone shows up around 7.  They take a look at the car and need to order parts.  We wait more.  Around 2:00pm, the car is repaired and I’m out about $450.  We decide that we have gone to far to turn around so we head to the casino.  We drink a little and gamble, then leave that night.

I’ve now been up for about 35 hours straight, but somehow make it back to the city, safe, around midnight.  My buddy is dead tired now and gets dropped off.  I have work at 8:00am the next day, but have now been up for over 40 hours.  Fuck that.  I head straight to the bar to share my story with some friends.  They buy me shots and drinks for my efforts, which I politely accept.  Fuck my liver.
